How do I find out my PAC code?
1. Call or text your current provider to request a mobile PAC code – A PAC code should be given to you immediately over the phone or within two hours by text. This time frame is stipulated by the telecommunications regulator. So if you don’t get it, you’ve got cause to complain.
- To prevent someone stealing your number, networks will want to verify your identity.
- So expect to be asked some questions and have the relevant information to-hand that’ll help you to answer quickly.
- PAC codes are normally made up of nine digits and will be valid for 30 days.
- If time runs out before you’ve had a chance to use the code you were supplied with, you’ll need to request a new PAC from your existing mobile provider.
Calls to networks to get your PAC code are charged at standard rates. If the above seems like a bit of a hassle and you just want a clean switch without having to speak to your existing provider, new government regulations have made the whole process a lot easier.
What is a PAC code used for?
What does a PAC code do? – A Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) allows you to take your old number with you when you change service providers. You’ll be asked for your PAC when you want to transfer your number either to us from your old provider or from us to a new provider.
What is the difference between a PAC and a STAC code?
What do these terms mean? – PAC is used to transfer an existing mobile number from one provider to another, stopping the service with the current provider. A STAC is used to stop the service with the current provider, the existing mobile number is not transferred to the new provider.

Our team will give you the opportunity to give us your PAC or STAC when agreeing the contract. If you give us your PAC or STAC at the point of sale we will switch your service to Clear Business within 1 working day of the SIM card being activated. If you do not have your PAC or STAC at the point of sale you can give it to us during your SIM activation or by calling 0333 241 4110.
- After the SIM card is activated we will switch your service within 1 working day of the PAC or STAC being given to us.
- You may be awarded compensation if the transfer of your service is delayed and/or you experience a loss of service during the transfer period.

If you do not have your PAC or STAC at the point of sale you can give it to us during your SIM activation or by calling 0161 946 4756. After the SIM card is activated we will switch your service within 1 working day of the PAC or STAC being given to us.

A PAC code is an alphanumeric code that should have three letters, followed by six numbers. For example, a PAC code should look like ABC123456.

What happens if you don’t use PAC code?
Nothing – if you haven’t given your new mobile provider your PAC or STAC within 30 days, it’ll automatically expire, and the switch won’t go ahead. Your plan with us won’t be cancelled, and you’ll be billed as normal.
Does a PAC code cancel your contract?
Early Exit Fees on Three – If you’re inside the minimum term of your contract with Three, you’ll need to pay something called an “early termination charge” (ETC) or “early exit fee”. This will essentially pay off the remainder of your contract. On Three, you’ll pay a early termination fee equal to the remaining monthly charges for the minimum term of your contract, less a variable discount which is currently 3%.

Can a PAC code be used for more than one number?
The transfers team confirmed that one PAC code can be used for the transfer of up to 25 numbers ‘unless the number in question is not a primary number’.
How is a PAC code generated?
How to get a PAC code from any network in 60 seconds – Getting a PAC code from your network is easy. All you have to do – no matter what network you’re requesting the code from – is text ‘PAC’ to 65075, using the number that you want to keep. Note that in some cases you’ll need to provide additional information along with the word ‘PAC’, typically your date of birth in the format DDMMYY.

- However in this case you’ll likely get a message back telling you as much if you send the word ‘PAC’ without the additional information.
- Requesting your PAC code this way is free to do, you’ll get a reply almost instantly, and as well as your code you’ll also get other important information, such as whether you’ll currently have to pay a fee to change network (which you might if you’re still in contract).
This isn’t the only way to request the code though, as many networks also let you call them or request the code online. These methods are listed below. Whatever the method of requesting it, make sure you do so before closing your account with the network in question.

During the online order process, you’ll sometimes be given the option to use your PAC Code straight away. We normally recommend declining this option as it can complicate things (e.g. if you wish to cancel or return your plan during the cooling-off period, or if there’s a delay before your new phone or SIM card arrives).
Unless you choose to use the PAC Code straight away, your new phone or SIM card will initially be given a temporary phone number. This will allow you to spend a little bit of time to make sure everything works correctly before you submit the PAC Code and complete the number transfer process. It isn’t possible to reverse a phone number transfer once it has taken place.
