How do I get a copy of my DBS certificate?
Basic check certificate reprint – If you have requested a basic check, you need to allow 14 days from the date we issue your paper certificate for it to be delivered. If you don’t receive your certificate after 14 days, you can request a reprint of your certificate using your DBS online account,
A reprint will not be provided if a paper copy of your certificate was not requested on the application form submitted for processing. If you do not have a DBS online account (or your DBS online account is not linked to your DBS profile), you can request a reprint of your certificate by calling us on 0300 0200 190.
Reprint requests must be made within 3 months (93 days) of the certificate issue date, and may only be re-issued to the address of the recipient of the original certificate. We will only issue 1 reprint of a certificate.
Where can I find my DBS?
Track your standard or enhanced application – The person being given a DBS check (the applicant) can track the progress of their standard or enhanced application using the DBS tracking service, They will need their application reference number and date of birth to track the application.

Why have I received a DBS certificate?
“I have received a letter telling me that I have been referred.” – If you have been referred to DBS, this could be because of one of the following:
- we have received information (a referral) from an employer about a conviction, caution, allegation, dismissal or resignation
- we have received information from the police following an application for an enhanced DBS with barred lists check
- we have received information following a change to your Update Service status
We will now seek further information about the circumstances of the referral. At this stage in the barring process, there are no legal restrictions preventing you from engaging in regulated activity. There may however be other restrictions placed on you by other professional bodies and our decision does not override these.
Can you download DBS certificate online?

Checking via DBS – DBS cannot access criminal records held overseas, but it is possible to submit an application while the applicant is overseas. In a small number of cases, overseas criminal records are held on the Police National Computer (PNC) and these would be revealed as part of a criminal record check.

- The eligibility or requirement for a DBS Check is the same for an applicant from abroad as it would be for a UK-based applicant.
- In other words, if the UK-based job role that is being applied for requires an Enhanced DBS Check it will do so regardless of where the applicant currently lives or has lived previously.
