Sri Lanka recorded the lowest-ever total in Asia Cup ODIs after being bundled out for 50 in 15.2 overs. Sri Lanka’s 50 is also its second-lowest total ever and the 10th-lowest total in ODI cricket. India recorded its biggest win chasing (balls remaining) in ODI cricket, winning the match with 263 balls to spare. India’s run chase in 6.1 overs was the fifth-fastest in One-Day Internationals. India extended the record for most wins by a team against a single opposition in ODIs with its 98th win over Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma became the third Indian captain to win two ODI Asia Cup titles, level with MS Dhoni and Mohammed Azharuddin. History of Asia Cup – The first Asia Cup was held in 1984 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates where the council’s offices were based (until 1995). India boycotted the 1986 tournament due to strained cricketing relations with Sri Lanka. The tournament format and groupings for the upcoming cricket tournament announced on January 9, 2023, have set the stage for an exciting competition. The six participating teams have been divided into two groups of three each. A total of 13 matches will be played throughout the tournament, comprising six league matches, six Super 4 matches, and a final. Group A consists of India, Pakistan, and Nepal. These three teams emerged as champions in the qualifier event, the 2023 ACC Men’s Premier Cup. On the other hand, Group B includes the defending champions, Sri Lanka, along with Bangladesh and Afghanistan. During the league stage, each team in their respective groups will compete against each other. After the completion of the league matches, the top two teams from both Group A and Group B will advance to the Super 4 stage.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that the Indian Cricket Team would not be travelling to Pakistan, following this the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also didn’t accept to move the Asia Cup out of Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi said that he understood BCCI’s position after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) declared Asia Cup to be played as a hybrid model.
I am elated that our hybrid version for the ACC Asia Cup 2023 has been accepted. This means the PCB will remain as the event host and stage matches in Pakistan with Sri Lanka as the neutral venue, which was required due to the Indian cricket team’s inability to travel to Pakistan,” Sethi said in a statement.
“Our passionate fans would have loved to see the India cricket team in action in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years, but we understand the BCCI’s position. Like the PCB, the BCCI also requires government approval and clearance before crossing borders,” he stated.
