The tournament format and groupings for the upcoming cricket tournament announced on January 9, 2023, have set the stage for an exciting competition. The six participating teams have been divided into two groups of three each. A total of 13 matches will be played throughout the tournament, comprising six league matches, six Super 4 matches, and a final. Group A consists of India, Pakistan, and Nepal. These three teams emerged as champions in the qualifier event, the 2023 ACC Men’s Premier Cup. On the other hand, Group B includes the defending champions, Sri Lanka, along with Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that the Indian Cricket Team would not be travelling to Pakistan, following this the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also didn’t accept to move the Asia Cup out of Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi said that he understood BCCI’s position after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) declared Asia Cup to be played as a hybrid model.

This means the PCB will remain as the event host and stage matches in Pakistan with Sri Lanka as the neutral venue, which was required due to the Indian cricket team’s inability to travel to Pakistan,” Sethi said in a statement.

“Our passionate fans would have loved to see the India cricket team in action in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years, but we understand the BCCI’s position. Like the PCB, the BCCI also requires government approval and clearance before crossing borders,” he stated.
