Is Kamrup Express always late?

Kamrup Express (via Guwahati) (PT)/15959 Travel Tips – Railway Enquiry Although being a crawler, this train is easily the most important train from West Bengal to the north-east. The train is quite prioritized on its route. Kamrup Express being late is a rare phenomenon, although seen sometimes in the winter season.

  1. The train is ISO rated, but none of those standards are seen in the non-AC classes.
  2. The AC coaches are also not the best maintained coaches, but get the job done.
  3. The bedsheets, pillows and blanket provided are pretty clean.
  4. Charging sockets are seen in all AC coaches, but none of the non-AC coaches in which I have travelled had Charging sockets.

The train has many stoppages en-route, hence many general and daily travellers get into the Sleeper class coaches in this train, hence long distance travellers should opt the AC classes. This is the only daily train from Howrah to beyond Guwahati and towards Dibrugarh, hence remains full throughout,

The year. Pantry is on the better side. I have not seen the pantry staff overcharging the people yet in this train. Snacks and fast food provided from the pantry are excellent. Last time I travelled a month ago in AC 3-Tier, the attendant told me that the OBHS facilites had been removed from this train, due to which the cleanliness standards have also degraded in the train, which can be one of the negative aspects for the passengers, especially the long distance travellers.

EDIT – As of 20/08/2019, I have travelled in this train couple of weeks ago and am presently in the train, I have to make some changes. First, the train has got its OBHS services back and these guys are active, they come and clean clean the coaches on a regular basis, atleast the AC classes.

Food is as always good on the train. The pantry guys have started to provide bills to customers on demand. They also have a tagline on the backside of their uniforms, ‘No bill, no charge’. The train has not been utkrishtified yet but there are Vinyl wrappings in the restrooms of both the rakes I have travelled in the last couple of weeks, as well as the one I am presently in.

please wait. please wait. please wait. Kamrup was one of my favorite trains to travel in and was frequented by my father who used to work in Tinsukia. I remember in my first travel in sleeper there were many passengers who boarded in the intermediate stations and told ‘thoda adjust kariye na’.

  • In AC however, the crowd is quite less and also well maintained.
  • AC should always be the preferred one in this train.

please wait. please wait. please wait. Are you sure it is ISO certified? The way you have described, it appears that the ISO certification may have been withdrawn. If my knowledge is right there are two ISO certifications 2000 and 2008 which apply to IR.

I think those which were certified under ISO 2000 may not have been certified under ISO 2008. There has been a previous discussion on ISO in IRI:, I accessed this website in google which mentions just 13 trains are ISO 2008 certified:, I dont know how reliable this website is. please wait. please wait.

please wait. Actually the website mentions about the ISO certification, hence I have said the same. The condition of the train definitely does not show any upgrade over conventional Mail/Express trains, so it is possible that the certification may have been withdrawn.

  • It would be great if anyone can give an appropriate information for the same.

Indian Railways is one of the biggest rail networks in the world. It is a public enterprise operated by the Ministry of railways, Government of India and carries over 23 million passengers’ daily, covering 7172 stations. The first railway line was set up in 1853 between Bombay and Thane and was nationalised in 1951.

It operates suburban as well as long distance trains on three gauge systems: narrow, broad and metre gauge. It serves 29 states and 7 Union Territories and also provides restricted international services to Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. One of the common problems of the Indian Railways is the delay process.

Many trains run late due to a variety of reasons. One of the main causes is inclement weather like fog, rain, floods, landslides, overheating of tracks, wind and stormy weather, etc. For instance, heavy rain can ruin ballasts or the rocks that hold the tracks.

  • Other reasons for train delay are mechanical failure, fallen trees on tracks, yearly maintenance, etc.
  • Tracks covered by broken trees necessitate the coming of railroad crews in high rail vehicles (which run on both rail and road) in order to clear tracks.
  • Yearly maintenance, replacements and track upgrades help to keep railroads in fit condition.
