Excerpts from the interview. Being ISC Topper 2023 Manya Gupta just sat down last afternoon to check her results, when they went live on the official website of the board.
Little did she know her genuine nervousness to know how she fared would turn out to be a remarkable experience for her. “When I saw my score which was 99.75%, I was surprised. I was not aiming for this percentage, I had not expected such good marks. I was just hoping that everything would be between 90 to 95 plus.” Manya who has topped most of her examinations throughout her school life, did not expect that one day she’d become the All India Topper.
“When I started to get congratulatory messages, I just somehow did not make the connection, I couldn’t have imagined that I’d be the national topper. This all felt so surreal when my friends and the school told me that I was, that is when I realised that I indeed was the topper,” she said. “My school was very supportive, they were the ones who were calling me first and to try and tell me.
So I got several calls from the administration department of my school as well as personal calls from my teachers. They were very happy and good to me,” Manya exclaimed. Exam Preparation As they say that one must ensure they give in their hundred per cent in what they do.
- Manya demonstrated a thorough example of this in her study preparation, as she started studying extensively a month before her exam began, “I started studying in January, right before my exams.” “I studied with the help of my school and tuition classes.
- I didn’t study daily much, but before the exams, I used to pull all-nighters and study”, the 17-year-old added emphasising quality over quantity.
Shedding some insight and reviewing the exam she had given, Manya says “The toughest exam for me was definitely economics. That’s the subject that I really enjoy, but I had to study harder for it.” Study routine “The tuition centre is managed by my mother completely, so she helped me both as a mother and as a teacher.
- Beyond that, I think the biggest contribution my family made was not being one of those families where I am forced to stay at home and study all day.
- They let me have a social life so that I could balance both, my life and studies”, said Manya.
- Career aspirations Determined with her career goals, Manya says, “I wanted to be a psychologist and I decided this in the 8th grade itself.
I still want to continue with that. My goal right now for college is to study abroad, as I already have an acceptance letter from The University of Bath in the UK.” Manya just like any other ISC examinee is keen on keeping her college options open, “I will also apply to colleges in India,” she said.
