What is Group A and Group B in T20 World Cup?
The ICC T20 World Cup has four groups – Group A, Group B, Group 1 & Group 2, Group A and Group B have 4 teams each while Group 1 and Group 2 will consist of 6 teams each post-qualification phase. The ICC T20 World Cup is set to move into its advance stage with Super 12 teams confirmed.

What is Group B World Cup B?
Teams – The teams were decided by the World Cup draw that took place on 1 April 2022. The group was set to receive one team from each pot, which sorted all World Cup teams by position on the FIFA World Rankings, The first team drawn was England, which secured qualification as a pot one team by winning Group I of UEFA qualification,
- The second pot team, the United States, qualified by finishing third in CONCACAF qualification,
- The third team was Iran, which won Group A of the AFC third round,
- The final team was not known at the time of the draw, as it was the UEFA second round Path A winner.

How many teams will qualify from Group A and B?
CWC Qualifier Format – What Is ‘Super Six’? – Two groups namely – Group A and B, each made up of five teams, play a round-robin series within their own group. The top three teams in each group then progress towards the CWC Qualifier Super Six stage. During this stage, these teams will also carry over their results (points) from the two matches against the other teams to advance from their initial group.
It is important to remember that points earned in the matches against other teams that also qualify for the Super Six are included in the upcoming stage of the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. Along with points, the net run rate from these matches against other teams to progress from the group is also carried over to the Super Six stage.
The teams which progress to the Super Six stage will then play the three teams to advance from the opposite group. So three teams from Group A will play against the three teams from Group B. The top two teams at the end of the Super Six stage will then confirm their place in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

How do the groups work in T20 World Cup?
Hosts – The International Cricket Council’s executive committee votes for the hosts of the tournament after examining bids from the nations which have expressed an interest in holding the event. After South Africa in 2007, the tournament was hosted by England, the West Indies and Sri Lanka in 2009, 2010 and 2012 respectively.
- Bangladesh hosted the tournament in 2014.
- India hosted the tournament in 2016.
- After a gap of five years, India won the hosting rights of 2021 edition as well, but due to COVID-19 pandemic the matches were played in Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
- The 2022 edition was hosted by Australia, who won the tournament in the previous year.
