What if my degree is not AICTE approved?

UGC UNIVERSITIES NOT HAVING AICTE APPROVAL – There are many UGC universities which don’t have AICTE approval. For example:

  1. Amity University
  2. Lovely Professional University
  3. Sharda University
  4. Manipal University
  5. BML – Munjal University
  6. UPES Dehradun University

The above mentioned are some of the well-known universities of India and none of them is Approved by AICTE, This is because these universities don’t require AICTE approval as they already are Approved by UGC, a statutory body under the Government of India and which is also the governing body for the universities.

Any University normally starts operating when it has got approval from a recognized body or else its reputation and its future both will be at risk. Universities obtain the Accreditation of UGC and then only start functioning. They don’t require the approval of AICTE as it only acts in the advisory capacity and not governing.

Also, its approval is only Required for technical education, So if a student is joining a course that is run by a UGC approved University and the university is not AICTE approved then the student shall have no fear. The main object to do the course is to have a legitimate and legal degree, to join a public sector or a Private sector job, to do higher study, etc.

Are Indian degrees Recognised in Europe?

Indian medical degrees and their recognition in Europe The answer is practical No. The Indian medical degree may be qualified to sit for the licencing examination of countries like USA/UK/Australia but it does not automatically confer the right to practice.

  1. This is the hard fact which I realized even after acquiring a specialist medical degree from a premier medical institute of India (CMC Vellore).
  2. Indian trained doctors are well known for their clinical acumen and competence.
  3. Their training is on par with many foreign medical degrees.
  4. Still, the basic and advanced medical degree from India does not carry much weight or do not qualify automatically in developed countries.

Even in Gulf, nowadays they prefer doctors who are trained from western countries like from Canada, US, UK and Australia. A doctor is at the higher position in Gulf countries if he/she has passed MRCP from UK or MD from the USA then an MD from India. On the other side, the medical degree from EU states (European Union) doesn’t require any qualifying exams to be passed in the UK.

  1. A medical degree from Canada/USA is an automatic qualification to practice in UK and Australia.
  2. In short no foreign countries (except African and some Asian countries) accept Indian degrees.
  3. What is more baffling is that some of the Basic medical degrees from Pakistan/Bangladesh/Sri-Lanka are recognised in Ireland as an automatic qualification to work as a doctor, while no Indian degree is qualified for such purpose in UK/Ireland.

A degree from any of foreign countries like the USA. UK, Canada and Australia are highly recognised and preferred than a degree from an Indian medical college if you want to practice and work in medicine at foreign shores. Edit: Thank you very much for the views and upvotes.

In fact, I had written the answer very casually before 3 years on Quora and never realised that it will garner so much interest. However, there are some additional points (some positive points about MBBS degree!) which I want to mention. Singapore medical council directly recognizes a basic medical degree from one of the 4-5 Indian medical colleges viz.

AIIMS, CMC Vellore, JIPMER, PGI Chandigarh. Please check the website of Singapore medical council for further details. However, only the MBBS degree from these medical colleges is recognized to work at registrar level and no post-graduate degrees are recognized from any medical colleges in India.

  • So, if one has done the post-graduate degree from these 4-5 medical colleges but MBBS is done from elsewhere, he will not be eligible to work in Singapore directly.
  • Like in my case, I have done only cardiology specialist degree – DM Cardiology from CMC Vellore and MBBS/MD from elsewhere – so I am not recognized directly to work in Singapore).

Having said that, any medical qualifications from the premier medical colleges like AIIMS Delhi, JIPMER Pondicherry, PGI Chandigarh, CMC Vellore will definitely have some weight in your CV as these colleges are known for their renowned medical training program in India.

In the end, while a basic medical degree (MBBS) from most of the medical colleges in India is eligible for licensing examination in developed countries, an automatic recognition of Indian basic and post-graduate medical to work in developed countries is not possible. (with some exception like in Singapore the UK?UK graduates are among the most employable in the world (QS Graduate Employability Rankings).

In fact –

83% of international graduates credit their UK degree for helping them get a job (International Graduate Outcomes, UUKI)The QS Global Employer Survey consistently shows that UK degrees are highly valued and recognised worldwide, with UK universities topping the QS Employer Reputation RankingSo, by gaining a prestigious UK education, you’ll be respected by employers and academics from all over the world. The UK government’s ‘Graduate Route’ scheme launched in 2020-21 allows a two-year post-study work visa to international graduates at the UK universities, expanding opportunities for talented international students to build successful careers in the UK.After graduation from a UK university, Indian graduates in any area of study can remain in the UK for two years to find employment at any skill levelThe UK also allows graduates with a business idea to set up their businesses in the UK via the Graduate Entrepreneur Visa (Tier 1). Each one may have different criteria. If you are an EU citizen and train in an EU. Country you practice anywhere in the EU. So if you want to work in a Europe, you’ll have to look up each countries needs to get a license. Most with involve doing a residency and exams.

  1. Which European languages do you speak fluently? I suspect all will want proof of your ability to converse in the local language.
  2. If you are interested in the UK then go to the GMC web page and check out their requirements.

For certain Federal positions (e.g. Civil Service, Expanded Professional Associates Program) applicants may need to submit proof of education (such as copies of transcript(s) and diploma(s)) as a part of the application. Proof of education requirements will vary from one program/position to another, and it is important that the applicant reads carefully which document(s) is/are required in the application package (e.g.

  • High School diploma or GED certificate, or Bachelor’s degree, or Master’s degree).
  • Submitted document(s) need to be legible copies of U.S.
  • College/university transcript(s) that include degree(s) (if any) awarded and course work completed, and if requested, a copy of the diploma.
  • Foreign education transcripts will not be accepted.

Foreign education (that is education acquired outside of any State of the U.S., the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, a Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, or any territory or possession of the U.S.) must be evaluated by a credential evaluation service in order to be given credit towards qualification.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and U.S. Department of Education provide guidelines on how the U.S. Government evaluates an applicant’s foreign education. Family members will find this information on OPM’s website (see Foreign Education section) and on the U.S. Department of Education, International Affairs Office’s website,

Applicants can request an evaluation from a member organization of one of the two national associations of credential evaluation services:

  1. National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) is an association of 19 credential evaluation services with admission standards and an enforced code of good practice.
  2. Association of International Credentials Evaluators (AICE) is an association of 10 credential evaluation services with a board of advisors and an enforced code of ethics.

Credential evaluations are not free, and applicants are responsible for the cost of the selected service. The cost and the time-frame to perform the service will vary according to the complexity of the case and the amount of documentation provided. The entire credentialing process may take weeks to months.

  • Prior to submitting any documents to a credential evaluation service, applicants may also need to obtain English translations of any non-English documents.
  • They should inquire with the selected member organization, which may offer translation services or may provide guidance on how to proceed.
  • Applicants should also be aware that the length of validity of the requested report may vary from one member organization to another.

Applicants to federal positions then submit copies of their foreign education credential evaluations in lieu of transcripts in their application package.
