They have enriched the nation’s cultural fabric with their rich cultural heritage and have contributed to the arts, music, literature and every form of creativity. The whole world knows the importance of travel, of exploring the different cultures and customs of different countries.

Yet there is still much that we need to do to realise our vision of a stronger, more united, more inclusive and a more prosperous India. We have a significant youth bulge. Approximately 68% of our population is below the age of 35. Republic day celebrations must acknowledge this youth bulge and energise it to act as a source of vitality to realise the vision of a better future.

We are building up our science and technology base. We have the demographic dividend to rely upon. We have started giving universal access to electricity to rural households. We are investing in clean and renewable energy. We must focus on areas where we can make meaningful progress in the shortest possible time – one of them is healthcare.

Who is al-Sisi? The Chief Guest for the 2023 Republic Day parade, Abdeh Fatah al-Sisi was Egypt’s military chief and defence minister before he took over control from democratically elected Md Morsi after a coup in 2013.

He went on to win a subsequent election in 2014 on an economic development plank. His presidency has thus far received mixed responses with critics pointing at Egypt’s current economic distress and violent stifling of opposition voices as causes for concern. When he arrives in January next year, al-Sisi will be the first Egyptian leader to grace the occasion.

Why is being the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day such a great honour? While similar to any other state visit by a foreign high dignitary, given the grandiosity and importance of the ceremony involved for India, it is the highest honour that the country accords to a guest in terms of protocol.

R-Day parade: UP wins best tableau award for second year in a row Uttar Pradesh’s tableau at the Republic Day parade in Delhi has won the first prize, said the defence ministry and the UP government on Friday. A total of 12 states and union territories had participated in the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2022.

1. This year’s tableau was based on the theme of ‘One district one product (ODOP)’ and the ‘Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
2. This is the third successive year when UP tableau won a prize at the Republic Day parade.

The second prize went to Karnataka for its tableau based on “cradle of traditional handicrafts” while Meghalaya bagged the third prize, the defence ministry said. The tableau of the north-eastern state was based on Meghalaya’s 50 years of statehood and its tribute to women-led cooperative societies and self-help groups.

• The UP’s tableau showcased the “cultural revitalisation of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor” and state’s “one district, one product” scheme.

The Kashi Vishwanath (KV) Corridor was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 13 last year. It has been built in around a 5.5 lakh square feet area. The construction cost of the project is ₹ 339 crore while the entire project is worth over ₹ 700 crore.
