What Is Strength In Physical Education Class 11
Strength can be defined as the amount of force a muscle of muscle groups can exert. Strength of the body can be measured in Pounds or dynes. Strength can be divided into two parts- Dynamic Strength Dynamic strength can be called isotonic strength. In pull ups and push ups,we require dynamic strength. Dynamic strength can be divided into three parts-

Maximum strengthExplosive StrengthStrength Endurance

Static Strength Static strength is also called Isometric strength. Static strength can be measured by Dynamometer. It is the ability of muscles to act against resistance.

  • The definition of strength is the ability to exert force (measured in Newtons) in order to overcome the resistance.
  • The formula for force says force is equal to mass (m) multiplied by acceleration (a). Force is measured in Newtons (N), mass in kilograms (kg), and acceleration in meters per second squared ( m/s2 )

What is Power?

  • The definition of power (measured in Watts) is the ability to exert force in the shortest period of time,

What is strength and its types Class 11?

Strength – Definition, types And methods of improving Strength – Isometric, Isotonic And Isokinetic | Training in Sports – Zigya Strength can be defined as the ability to overcome resistance or to act against resistance. Types of strength: Maximumu Strength: It is the ability to overcome or to act against resistance.

It is the maximum force which is applied by the muscles to perform any certain activity. For developing maximum strength intensity is high and repetitions are less. Explosive Strength: It is a combination of strength and speed abilities. It is the ability to overcome resistance with high speed. For developing explosive strength, the intensity is sub-maximum and repetitions are performed as fast as possible.

Strength Endurance: It is the ability to overcome resistance or to act against resistance under conditions of fatigue. Methods for Improving Strength: ISOMETRIC EXERCISE: Isometric exercises are those exercises, which are not visible. In fact, there are no direct movements, hence they can‘t be observed.

In these exercises, work is performed but is not seen directly. In these exercises, a group of muscles carry out tension against the other group of muscles. For example, pushing against a sturdy wall. ISOTONIC EXERCISE: The literal meaning of the word isotonic is constant tension i.e., iso means constant ant tonic means tension.

In this exercise the length of muscles changes (shortens or lengthens) during action along with tension in them. An isotonic exercise is a form of active exercise in which muscles contract and cause movement. There is no significant change in resistance throughout the movement, so the force of contraction remains constant.

Such exercise greatly enhances joint mobility and helps improve muscle strength and tone. ISOKINETIC EXERCISE: These exercises are performed on specially designed machines. These exercises are developed by Perrine in 1968. In these exercises, contraction of muscles applies maximum force only at a particular angle of its range of movement, whereas, in isokinetic exercise contraction of force throughout the complete range of movement.

These exercises involve a specific type of muscle contraction which is not involved in games and sports like rowing and swimming. : Strength – Definition, types And methods of improving Strength – Isometric, Isotonic And Isokinetic | Training in Sports – Zigya

Why is strength important in physical education?

– Muscular strength enhances overall health and boosts athletic activity.

A strong body allows you to perform movements and activities that require power without getting tired. Muscular strength helps you maintain a healthy body weight by burning calories and enhancing your body composition, which is the ratio between fat and muscle. Building strength may also boost mood and energy levels while promoting healthy sleep patterns. This may boost confidence, provide a sense of accomplishment, and allow you to add more difficult or strenuous activities to your fitness routine. Developing muscular strengths helps to build strong, healthier muscles and bones. This helps to develop good posture and relieve back pain. You’ll have more stability, balance, and flexibility, making injuries and falls less likely.
