Is Bachelor of elementary education hard?

Why did I choose BEEd in Special Education: My passion for learning and teaching. Especially the children that I will teach. I love children and I really like to teaching them especially when it comes to Good Manners and Right Conduct. About my college education: The four years of studying was full of fun and learning! Yes there were times when the studying gets tough and requires tedious work, all of it was worth it because of the learning! In succeeding in the course Education, I think it’s the passion and dedication for the future in teaching. My current job: I am a Private Homeschool teacher. I teach children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. And I believe that I am living my dream because this is what I really wanted from the first place =) Am I using what I learned in college: Mostly yes, the knowledge and theories I have to consider in teaching a class or a student is very important in the field. What exactly have I used is knowledge on special education, learning styles and techniques, measurements and assessments. How long did it take to find a job: I graduated March 2010 and I was employed by May for a Preschool teaching job then I started working June of the same year. Do I recommend studying BEEd in Special Education: Of course! With the new K-12 program by the Department of Education and as a developing country, I strongly believe that teacher aspirants have great opportunities ahead of them. Salary wise, the government are giving at par salary for educators, bonuses and increases. Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: When you are certain of what you want to pursue and become in life, then everything will go smooth sailing. The positive outlook, good time-management and perseverance one must, will help them succeed not only in taking the course but in life as well. Was this review useful to you? Why did I choose Elementary Education: I have chosen this particular course is because I love to communicate, share knowledge and I really have the passion to teach. It was my dream to be a teacher that’s why this is the only course In my mind when I entered college. About my college education: I have learned a lot from this course, but the best thing Ive learned which I can use everywhere is my communication skills. Most of our batch-mates didn’t took the review center including myself, but then we confidently took the exam, that’s because our teachers are giving us more time for self review and intensive mock exam. My current job: I’m a preschool teacher since 2013. Am I using what I learned in college: The best thing that iv’e learned in college which I can bring anywhere, is the skills of communicating to people. How long did it take to find a job: I already secured my job before the graduation. Do I recommend studying Elementary Education: Yes I would strongly recommend this course, specially if you have very good command with the students. The schools are looking for teachers who is very enthusiastic in teaching yet very good in discipline too. Fresh graduates in private schools usually earn 9,000-12,000, depends on the school and location. Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: If you want to take elementary education you should be very sure that you really want to teach because you need a lot of patience specially you are dealing with 6-12 years old children, you should be very understanding and know how to meet their needs at the middle, specially they didn’t came from the same family. About my college education: When I was in university, I learnt many things to improve my skills. First, I was able to improve my communication skills. I had problems expressing my thoughts. I preferred to write notes rather than to talk to our foreign classmates.

  1. One day, our teachers in College of Education encouraged us to speak out and told us about their experiences how they developed their communication skills.
  2. I was inspired of what they’ve shared and I started to feel comfortable speaking in front of my classmates.
  3. It was challenging or difficult at first but I didn’t mind my accent and my grammar.

I have learnt that once you have developed your self-confidence, communication skills are next to it. I was able to follow the American accent which is helpful for me to find a job even in abroad. We were required to take public speaking class, speech class and join in clubs like MTS Club which really helped a lot to explore or enhance our talents in declamation, drama and speaking.

  • Debate also is included in our Philosophy class where in we have to join the ‘boast contest’ or called “tikal-tikal contest” before we picked the topic in the debate.
  • This kind of contest was really fun and I enjoyed it even though we didn’t win.
  • In Filipino class, we did the extemporaneous speech which is also nice to enhance the speaking skills.

Second, I was able to develop my skills in music. I am a tone deaf and my family doesn’t have musical skills but I am required to take music class (Philippine Music), As a teacher, I should be able to sing or at least play one instrument like guitar even though I am not a music teacher.

We were given 3 weeks to practice how to play the instrument and after that we have to sing and play the guitar in front of 3 professors from different universities. Now, I use that skill before I start the lesson to kindergarten kids. Prayers and patience are must in order to develop musical skills. Third, I was able to improve my maths skills.

In our maths class, we were given formulas and we should be able to find out the derivation of each formula. This was really difficult because we asked and interviewed some students from other colleges. They weren’t able to find the answers. Hard work was really needed in this area.

Fourth, I was able to develop my sports skills. I didn’t like sports but when I started to learn how to play ball games, I started to love it. Dancing was one of my weaknesses but we were required to join in cheering competition because we had the least number of students in the campus. Because of it, I join in any dance number in my working place and also sports.

I work in the international school and every year there are some events that we need to join or participate like Sport’s Day (parents versus teachers) and Graduation Day or Christmas Party (teachers are required to perform one dance number), I believe that motivation (intrinsic or extrinsic) and prayers (MAP-motivation and prayers) are required to succeed as a student of this course (B.E.E.D Major in Mathematics) because other skills might develop like arts, music, sports, social, emotional, maths, English etc. My current job: Presently, I am Maths and Science teacher in Kindergarten at Anglo Singapore International School in Bangkok. Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, I use what I have learnt. First, I use my computer skills because in our school we have to use laptop or tablet, projector and speakers. Also, I have to type my lesson plan in MS word save in the server. Second, I sing in the class and sometimes I play guitar so that the kids are motivated to sing. How long did it take to find a job: I was hired in one of the private schools in our place a month before my graduation. That was March. My graduation was in April. Do I recommend studying BEEd in Mathematics: If anyone likes to teach kids or have a passion to teach and you want to earn money then you can take Education especially if the major is English, Mathematics or Science. You can teach in abroad like China, South Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar and in other countries in Asia. Was this review useful to you? Why did I choose Elementary Education: I always wanted to be a teacher and teach young minds. About my college education: I learned different techniques on how to teach kids, what teaching approach should I use for different kinds of kids. My favorite subject was Psychology, this subject helps me understand how people think, how my students think, how they react to my teachings in that way I can adjust myself. My current job: I am a public school teacher for grade 5 students. I teach History, English and P.E. Am I using what I learned in college: The most helpful subject for me is Psychology. I learned how to handle kids who are talkative, naughty and attention seeker. It helps me how to act and how to discipline my students the right way. How long did it take to find a job: 7 months. I still reviewed for the board exam. Do I recommend studying Elementary Education: I highly recommend this course. This is a very fulfilling career. You can help mold young minds. You can be part of what they will become and it feels so good. The future depends on you. But sad to say, this is not a high paying job. If you still want to be a teacher but wants a high salary, my suggestions is go try your luck teaching abroad. Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: If you are considering this course, make sure that teaching is your passion, you love kids and you should be very very patient. Was this review useful to you? About my college education: For me, it’s very challenging and very enjoyable, why? because I have a lot of experiences like, I’ve been working at the same time studying. I worked before at jollibee as a service crew (part time job) and I also sell Sara Lee products and RTW to have extra money for emergency, because my parents don’t really give me more money for my allowance, to be honest I only have 300-400 pesos per month that’s why I learned how to make yema balls enable to survive and sell some stuffs to my classmates, but I am not ashamed for that, in that way I may able to practice how to mingled with other people specially the high-so one and also with my parents by not asking more allowances to buy what I want. My current job: I am a Teacher Am I using what I learned in college: I think so. but I am not really using what exactly I learned in my profession, maybe there are some strategies and techniques as a Teacher because I am teaching, but I also base it on own experiences. How long did it take to find a job: It takes 6 months for me. Do I recommend studying Elementary Education: Yes, because Education or being a Teacher is universal for me, as what I had experienced. Was this review useful to you? About my college education: Taking up the course BEED was just merely following my mom’s choice, although I was confident that I could be a nurse, accountant or engineer instead (if not for poor financial status atleast), Having internship and Taking practice teaching was the most challenging part of the course. My current job: I am happily teaching grade VI in a public school since August 2008. Am I using what I learned in college: The teaching methods and strategies I learned from college are very beneficial and yes, I am using it at present. Although it is very clear that there is quite different when I am really on the field of teaching compared to when I was just studying them. How long did it take to find a job: Two weeks after graduation, I became a teacher at KUMON LEARNING CENTER, Cabanatuan until May 2007. I became a Provincial Local School Board Teacher on August 2007-March 2008. Do I recommend studying Elementary Education: I would recommend taking BEED as a course since the government is in need of teachers especially that they are now implementing the k12 program which will hire more teachers in the field. The feeling of fulfillment felt after the success of your pupil is really incomparable. About my college education: I don’t want to give people doubt on why I chose to take up education but given a chance, I would have taken Mass Communication. It’s just that due to finacial constraint that I landed in PNU. College years were years of struggle. My current job: I am currently teaching in a public elementary school in Las Pinas where I also graduated way back 1996. Am I using what I learned in college: Yes. My university taught me a lot of things about teaching and I’m applying it in my workplace. How long did it take to find a job: PNUans won’t find it hard looking for a job since Philippine Normal University is dubbed as “Center for Excellence”. I had my first job after graduation as an English teacher in a private school. Do I recommend studying Elementary Education: In terms of employment, there are lots of opportunities waiting for you. As they said, “Hanggat may bata, may teacher.” You have to have a PASSION for TEACHING. Remember that TO TEACH IS TO TOUCH. You have the ability to make a difference in the lives of your students.

  1. Anyone who dares to teach must never cease to learn.
  2. Once a teacher, always a learner.
  3. In terms of salary: The Philippine government should give more attention to the condition of the salary of public school teachers.
  4. We are kinda overworked but underpaid, I must say.
  5. That’s why there are lots of good teachers who choose to go abroad wherein you can have as much as P300,000/month.

How tempting as it seems but I choose to stay here in the Philippines because I knew in my heart that I’m needed here in our own country to make a difference in the lives of the pupils I got to teach. Was this review useful to you? Why did I choose BEEd in Special Education: Because it was my passion to teach students, especially the people with special needs. About my college education: At first, it was difficult but I realized that I should know my priorities to have a degree. St. Scho taught me that prayer doesn’t work on it’s own it requires hard work. The course curriculum trained me to be a teacher who is flexible and can prepare a creative output. My current job: I am a teacher in one of the schools in BF Parañaque and I am planning to be a member of Advocata, an organization that advocates that students with special needs are functional to the society. Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, I can apply all the theories and strategies that st. Scholasticas equipped us. How long did it take to find a job: 2-3 weeks Do I recommend studying BEEd in Special Education: Employment opportunities for special educators are scattered all over the country. Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Being a special education student is not easy as other courses, for it needs a passion and patience to teach students with special needs. I will discourage you to take the course if the only reason is that the salary in the other country is thrice the regular compensation rate of a teacher in the Philippines. Why did I choose Elementary Education: I wanted to follow the footsteps on my mother. She is a school teacher. Not only did I receive it from one of the top universities in the country, but as I compare it with other universities, I value the unique education UP gave me. UP is truly a society’s sampler – one can meet ALL kinds of people, know what society really is (including its stratification and workings), and be trained on politics and the reality beyond school life.

UP is a haven of great minds; it is where artists, geniuses, achievers, and leaders thrive. To be a successful Educ student, you have to be hardworking. You have to persevere to complete all your requirements-and with excellence. You won’t pass with the high-profile mentors of Educ if you give less than a hundred percent of your effort.

Most importantly, believe in yourself. Just because you’re in Educ and you might not be taking higher Math or Science courses doesn’t mean you’re less smart than the students from other colleges. Just because you don’t have a thesis requirement doesn’t mean you’re less of a person than the other students. My current job: Elementary Math teacher Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, I’m applying what I learned in university. I am applying the verbs I learned for lesson planning, I use appropriate teaching methods and activities to effectively teach math, and the technology and applications I learned in Computers in Education to connect with my digital learners. How long did it take to find a job: I landed a job even while I was still in school. Do I recommend studying BEEd in Early Childhood Education: Absolutely, because teachers are always in-demand in schools and the DepEd pays teachers well. Don’t believe that public school teachers are still payed low. Research in your community first. Teaching is such an interesting career. About my college education: Education (BEED), to become a professional teacher you have to have a great determination. Be devoted and love the profession you are trying to achieved. Interesting in the sense, you are going to be dealing with pupils/students. My current job: My current job, is a big twist with my profession, I graduated BEED a professional Teacher, but never practiced my profession. Maybe because the time I like to teach, just in our place. But it was really not a safety place for teachers, especially christian teachers. Am I using what I learned in college: As what I have stated above, my job is really a big twist on my profession. Instead of teaching, I am in on computer world as an IT How long did it take to find a job: After graduation, I reviewed and take the Board exam and wait until the result is released. After knowing I passed, I applied in a Gov’t Office, which was my first job here in manila. Do I recommend studying Elementary Education: Even thought I have not practice my profession, I still love it. And would encourage it to young students to take this course. Because there would not be, other profession if isn’t with teachers. In entering or securing a tenure, one must not be so over confident, everybody should start at level one before going to other levels. About my college education: The College of Education is wrapped with everything. I was a working student. I took few units for me to have time to work, that’s why I finished college few years later than what is expected. Challenges and difficult times was when examination comes and I don’t have enough funds to pay for my tuition fee.

  • It didn’t stop me from continuing my goal to finish my degree.
  • The enjoyable and interesting experiences were joining academic related clubs in the university aside from fulfilling my academic duties.
  • There are a lot of activities in the campus.
  • Name it! We have it! In the College, we are trained to be effective teachers.

In order to succeed as a student in this course, you need hard work, interpersonal skills, creativity, the skills of conveying the topics clearly and mastering your area of specialization. My current job: I am a teacher. I am presently working in one of the international schools in Bangkok, Thailand. Am I using what I learned in college: The principles of teaching and the strategies are useful. During this time, I just have to adjust with the trend. We were taught to make as many materials as we can to show our students to help them understand the lesson. Now, I have the technology to help me. How long did it take to find a job: I got a job after a month Do I recommend studying Elementary Education: Yes. There are a lot of employment opportunities if you finish this course especially abroad. Choose a country that needs your expertise. Regardless of what area of specialization will you take, make sure to polish your English communication skills both oral and written.

  1. In this way, you will have an edge.
  2. In this career, fulfillment comes when the students you are teaching learns a certain subject or becomes successful in his/her chosen career.
  3. It is interesting when you keep on exploring and learning new things as well.
  4. The basic income of being a teacher in not as much as doctors, engineers, architect, accountants, nurses receives but as a teacher you can make more money by doing extra lessons after leaving the school.

It depends upon how you manage your time. Was this review useful to you? About my college education: It was a great course that I took up. I couldn’t be where I am now had I not took up Education. God allowed me to take up this course to mold me as a person and to be able to share my knowledge and skills; to make an impact to every person’s lives. My current job: I worked as a teacher ever since I graduated, but recently I have to resign because of my sickness. Am I using what I learned in college: I believe the university’s strategy can be equated with other prominent schools in the Philippines. The foundational input of the theories were strengthened with our practice teaching – that constitute to the practical side of learning. How long did it take to find a job: Before graduation I had part – time jobs already. After graduation I was immediately hired as private tutor to children of a Norwegian Missionary family who paid me lavishly. They even gave me an unforgettable gift – a trip to their hometown in Norway. Do I recommend studying Elementary Education: Yes, I would. School is the only institution that could hardly be depleted or out of fashioned. In fact, it is dynamic and alive since education is indispensable in our time and onwards. Everywhere there is a school whether public or private, whether in small towns or in big cities. Why did I choose BEEd in English: During my high school days, the education course was very “in demand” and it felt like everyone is into it. So I guess, because of the notion, I got myself enrolled in the said course. About my college education: As the name of the course suggests, it revolves around teaching students in the English subject. But as we know it, here in the Philippines, whether your major is in English, you will also be teaching Science or Music and even a lot more subjects. My current job: I am currently a Public School teacher in one of the elementary schools in my town. Am I using what I learned in college: No man is an island as they say. It is very indeed true because I needed my friends, my classmates, and my professors to be the person I am now. All the learning that I had in the university were all what I needed in order to be a teacher right now. How long did it take to find a job: I was hired a year after graduation in a private school. I had entered a public school 3 years after that. Do I recommend studying BEEd in English: Always remember that to be a teacher is something that is a very rewarding profession. If you go to a private school to teach, the salary is quite low compared to those by the public schools. Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Teaching is a passion. Teaching is something that can make a child succeed in his life or fail. If you want to be a part of someone’s success in his career, go and teach. Was this review useful to you? About my college education: College is a happy roller-coaster ride. Experience is the best teacher indeed. And I was overall in awe of what college imparted to me. I have learned that you will not enjoy college if you are not happy with your chosen course. My current job: I’m currently Teaching now as a SpEd and preschool teacher. Am I using what I learned in college: Yes, I actually used things I’ve learned in college. The knowledge imparted and the basic know-how’s such as making of Individualized Education Program for each SpEd student and how to handle each of them. How long did it take to find a job: 24 days (I didn’t even applied! Talking about God’s favor.) Do I recommend studying BEEd in Special Education: I would recommend my course only to those who love Teaching, children, and have great patience within them. Teaching is by far the most fulfilling profession of all! In case of salary level, I think it is only applicable in other countries. Why did I choose BEEd in Special Education: I was doing a research on which work can be in demand for the next four years. Practically sharing some information, Special Education graduates are easily hired around the world with higher currency salary fee. About my college education: My course was quite theoretical mentioning the SpEd here in the Philippines is based from America. We were more into theories during the first two years, and the last two years were more into application. Most of the subjects are difficult but research can be be very difficult.

Doing research is way too unlikely from doing reports or studying given information. Research requires skills that are to be studied, time, effort, money, patience, advisers and personal discipline to finish it. Passing the exams was not that difficult if you are really studying, even you only have a few of books as your resource.

My batch mates were intelligent and competitive people. Everyone was more encouraged to study knowing that other departments treated education students who has the easiest subjects. My current job: Montessori Elementary Guide Am I using what I learned in college: Job-hunting AusAid (Job Enabling English Proficiency) Interpersonal Skills How long did it take to find a job: 1 month Do I recommend studying BEEd in Special Education: I can only recommend BEED-SPEC to the people who have a really in-depth understanding about children with special needs. Patience can be one of the necessary skills. BEED-SPED teachers can earn from 7k-9k as starting. Different places has different rates. Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: Do not be bookish. Go out and look for a place where you can volunteer as a SpEd teacher or as an assistant. Always remember that education does not prepare you for life for it is life itself as qouted by John Dewey. Educate yourself in many ways as you can. Stay hungry for knowledge! Was this review useful to you? Why did I choose Elementary Education: First and foremost, I love communicating and teaching younger people. I would like to share the lessons I’ve learned in my life. Even though the salary of a teacher is not that big, it would be enough for me to live typically. Also, Teaching is the most stable job unlike nursing. Lastly, I would like to help my family and friends. About my college education: BS elementary education is not a hard nor easy course. It prepares the student for a successful careers as teachers of children in preschool, elementary-primary, and elementary-intermediate classroom settings. This is a very exciting course because you’ll be meeting different students. Being a teacher, you should have patience on your students. My current job: Online Teacher. I’m teaching koreans and chinese on correct speaking and writing english. Am I using what I learned in college: I can say that most of the things that I’ve learned are applicable in real world. Especially this course, our professors are molding us to become a good teacher someday. How long did it take to find a job: It took 6 months for me to find a job. I have loved my course that even during Summer, I have to enroll nine units for me to catch up with my behind subjects and graduate within four years. This course is not itself expensive, but requires much memorization, explanation, group works and research to prove yourself. During my last year (senior student), I had my internship into 3 different elementary schools in the city: The first one was in very remote area of Bacolod City, and the main challenge for me was the cost of transportation everyday, and the nature of students wherein you have fetch them from their houses (residing within the locality) and motivate them to understand the significance of education, and teaching older students know how to read and write as Grade One students (repeatedly enrolled in same level).

The second school is within the City Proper, where in I was assigned in Grades V-7 (lowest section) and I-1 (star section). I loved them differently as they showed deep respect to me as an Student Intern, up to the extent that they would request their adviser to let me take over their lessons, as I enabled them to understand every item I was discussing.

  • However, I got low grades during my Demonstration (Grade V-7) and found the said adviser not confident and impressed by my performance and delivery.
  • It has challenged the Faculty that even required the District Superintendent to attest my second demonstration (Grade I-1), where I topped the rating for that school alone.

Thirdly, I engaged my self as merely an observer at LCC itself, for Grade 3 and 1 classes. I have only studied the teaching methods and approaches of veteran teachers and teaching isn’t so complicated and difficult for the learners are indeed different from those in Public Schools. My current job: I am currently employed in a BPO/Offshore Company, as a Maintenance Administrator of Australian Company. I provide assistance remotely to Australian Director/Manager, manages all maintenance requests and monitoring of status for our clients (retails shops). Am I using what I learned in college: Basically, YES. Especially learning and practicing English (its rules, commands and usage), Mathematics (computation). The rest will be more of value formation that I have developed. How long did it take to find a job: After I graduated on March 2005, I enrolled in a review center then took the Licensure Exam on August 2005. I landed on my first job in a Rental/Transport Company on January 2006 here in Manila. Do I recommend studying Elementary Education: Taking up Bachelor in Elementary Education offers as one of the stable and competitive in the future. Without setting aside of course, the skills and proficiency of a graduate from this course. Anybody who would love or have the heart for teaching will always do it as a Vocation, not just a profession. Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course: My initial advice to anyone who would consider taking this Course, is push it, do your best, but make sure to discern of what your heart desires. There were a lot of graduates who took up courses which were irrelevant to the line of work they wanted to land in the future. Was this review useful to you?
