In Korea, 80.4% of elementary school students began to use smartphone at or below 10 years old, and 59.9% of them spent 1 hour or more per day using their smartphone ( Lee & Kim, 2018 ).
Girls showed a higher tendency to have difficulties with smartphone use ( Choi et al., 2015 ; Kwon & Paek, 2016 ; Lee, Kim, & Choi, 2017 ). Approximately 69% of girls and 63% of boys reported having fears of being separated from or not accessing their smartphones ( Louragli, Ahami, Mammad, & Lamrani, 2018 ).
Most of the adolescents spent time on Facebook, followed by WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media platforms ( Louragli et al., 2018 ).
